Space-Available In-District Transfers

For Students Residing Within the Ann Arbor Public Schools Attendance Boundaries

The Ann Arbor Board of Education has approved a Space-Available In-District Transfer policy that allows for a permanent reassignment of in-district students from one school to another.  Under the Space-Available In-District Transfer policy, families that live within the Ann Arbor Public School district may apply for a transfer from their assigned school (as defined by the Ann Arbor Public School Street Index) to one of the identified space-available schools. Families of students who receive these transfers are officially assigned to the requested school instead of their original school.  If the transfer request is granted, students can stay for all grades offered at that school.

NOTE: Transportation to and from school is the responsibility of the participating parent/guardian.  The ability of the family to transport students to arrive on time for daily instruction is an important consideration when applying for a Space-Available Transfer.

2. Copies of the application form are available in school offices or by downloading from this page (192kb PDF).
3. Schools with space available under the policy are determined annually based upon capacity and projected enrollment. For the 2012/2013 school year:
   

   ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS
   Abbot - Gr. K-5	Carpenter - Gr. K-5	Northside - Gr. K-5
   Allen - Grade K, 3, 4	Dicken - Gr. K-5	Pattengill - Gr. 3, 4, 5
   Angell - Gr. 3, 4, 5	Haisley - Gr. K only	Pittsfield - Gr. K-5
   Bach - Gr. K and 3	Lakewood - Gr. K, 1, 2
   Bryant - Gr. K, 1, 2	Logan - Gr. K and 1

4. Space is very limited at the schools listed above. Actual numbers will be determined with further monitoring of enrollment projections. If the number of applicants exceeds the number of spaces available in a given school, a lottery will be conducted. You may include up to four choices on the application.
   
5. The district will notify students/families of the status of their transfer application request by the end of the school year.
